New Delhi, India: Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batter for India, is set to start his rehabilitation process at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence located in Bengaluru. This follows a right foot fracture he suffered during the Old Trafford Test against England in July. With India's upcoming World Test Championship series against the West Indies approaching—scheduled for October 2-6 in Ahmedabad and October 10-14 in Delhi—Pant's recovery timeline is critical. The selection for this series is anticipated in the last week of September, making his rehabilitation efforts even more significant, according to reports.
During the fourth Test in Manchester, Pant faced a severe injury when a yorker from England's Chris Woakes struck his foot, forcing him to leave the field in the 68th over.
Pant's Remarkable Comeback
Following the injury, Pant's foot showed immediate swelling, and blood was visible when he took off his boot. The pain was evident, and he retired hurt after scoring 37 runs off 54 balls, leaving the field on a golf buggy. Despite his injury, he returned to contribute significantly to India's total of 358, although he did not keep wickets in the second innings.
Washington Sundar stepped up in Pant's absence, scoring an impressive unbeaten 101 runs, helping India secure a memorable draw alongside Ravindra Jadeja at Old Trafford. On the second day of the match, Pant surprised everyone by returning to the crease just before lunch, with India at 314/6. The crowd welcomed him back with loud applause. He showcased his power by hitting his 90th six in Test cricket, equaling Virender Sehwag's record for the most sixes in this format. Pant reached a hard-fought half-century before being dismissed by Jofra Archer, who bowled him out for 54 runs off 75 balls.
